After the much anticipated arrival of Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups, the Knicks were able to get enough fire power to over come a fantastic shooting performance from the Milwaukee Bucks and get the victory at home. The fans were ecstatic and the buzz was certainly at a new high in the Garden, but as expected, the chemistry on the court did have its issues. Not to worry though, moving forward for the rest of the week with shoot around and practice today and a game against the Cavs on Friday, I expect things to start falling in place sooner than later.
The one factor that fans need to realize is that coming into a new system both offensively and defensively is not an easy task to master. To judge the Knicks on their first performance with new pieces added is simply out of this world wrong. But, there is one concern that I have still, DEFENSE. The defensive rotation on the Milwaukee shooters purely and surely stunk out loud last night and it is an area of concern. Keyon Dooling, John Salmons, Corey Maggettee and Carlos DelFino were able to rip the nets from deep to keep Milwaukee at an arms length for most of the night. Moving into the latter of the season, this simply cannot happen.
Don't stop reading just yet, because there is a good scenario to this. The good comes with the urge of leadership from Anthony who told the team before the game and in timeouts about the importance of getting solid on defense. With a few more shootarounds and walk throughs, I believe with Stoudemire and Anthony, a new defensive theory can be developed to help this team down the playoff stretch.
