Well, here we go again. Another night, another Knicks game and I am bewildered as to what to expect on the floor tonight. Judging by the last six performances my gut tells me a lot of inconsistencies yet and a lack of effort still on the defensive end. The only problem is against the Celtics, it won't be a four or five point loss like the last two against Detroit and Milwaukee. It will be a total blowout and almost get circus like because the Celtics know how to handle their business. Playoff time is right around the corner.
So my message to the Knicks: Wake up and smell the coffee baby. It's late March with the NCAA Final Four Tournament heating up, the NBA Playoffs are right around the corner and you have two of the most dynamic scoring talents in all of the land. If you can't get excited and play the game like you know how, then maybe the Playoffs aren't a good idea for you this year and you can sit home and watch the Pacers and someone like the Bobcats slip in and steal a spot right out from under you. Get with it!
A couple of other notes: Chauncey Billups looks very old since his thigh bruise. I haven't really seen the leadership and take control attitude since his return. Toney Douglas needs to not ever shoot 3-for-13 or worse again this season because he is the pulse of the bench. He needs to produce and produce often. Just because he comes in for Billups now, doesn't mean he should negate what Billups told him when he started, which was to be aggressive at all times. He is a scoring threat! The bigs need to find a way to even out the rebounding margin. The second chance points we give up off of rebounds makes my stomach curdle at times. I actually think about popping a few Pepto Bismuths.
Bottom line is two prime time teams come to town this week starting tonight. Effort, Heart and Willingness to compete need to be involved the rest of the way. The Celtics and Magic will take advantage of any of those incompetencies. Remember that, starting tonight.
