"The fact that Roger Mason Jr. remains on the roster after the trade deadline and the waiver period came as a surprise to many. Mason, who has been admittedly frustrated with his lack of playing time, said he thought about asking for a buyout. But he spoke with Billups and Stoudemire about it and, Mason said, both encouraged him to stay. Mason has set an example of professionalism throughout the season by continuing to get his work in before every game and being a positive influence in the locker room. Vets like him are valuable to keep on the bench in case of injuries." via Alan Hahn
The Miami Heat have cut point guard Carlos Arroyo. But, with the trade deadline here and gone, plus the waiver period, Roger Mason Jr. still remains on the Knicks roster despite being frustrated with lack of playing time this season. Could the Knicks pick him up? It seems the Knicks do not want to part with Mason Jr. due to his veteran leadership he brings to the locker room and bench.
I have no problem with having a great leader on the team, but if he's not logging minutes and helping the team win on the floor, it's almost like he's rotting at the end of the pine. I've always been fond of Arroyo's game. He can knock down open jumpers. He's quick with the ball in his hands. He can certainly fit into the up-tempo style that D'Antoni runs. The question still will remain about his defensive efforts, but to be honest the whole Knicks team has that question mark to answer.
So, the final question is, "Do you think Arroyo would fit with the Knicks in the back up point guard role?"
